Mrs. Sue Hervey

Kindergarten

SUE HERVEY GREW UP IN MILWAUKEE, got married while still in college, and moved to Washington State. She graduated from the University of Portland with an Elementary Education (K-8) degree. Sue had plans to get a teaching job after graduation.

God had a better plan in mind as Sue and her husband David began their family. In 2000, they moved back to Wisconsin where all of Sue's family lives. Sue enjoyed several years at home with her children; Luke, Elise, and Braden, all who attend BCS. She did some substitute teaching during those years and also taught preschool at the YMCA.

In fall of 2004, she began working at BCS as a Pre-K Aide, and eventually added the role of Pre-K Enrichment Teacher. She also got a taste of Kindergarten as she fulfilled a long-term substitute role for two months in 2007.

“I have been so blessed to be a part of BCS. It's like a second family to us. As a parent, I cannot imagine a better place for our children. The families are very down to earth people who show true Christianity. What a blessing it is to be able to work in a school where the staff and families love the Lord and all want to help raise these children to serve our amazing God!”

Sue enjoys spending time with her husband and children, going to her children's various activities and getting together with her extended family and friends.

Mrs. Hervey’s Mission Statement:

“I love children! All children! Kindergarteners I especially love. They seem to have endless curiosity and energy. They're excited about our world, they're enthusiastic about learning and they have such teachable hearts. I have the privilege to be able to provide a Christ-centered environment for them, where all of those wonderful qualities can be used to help grow their faith.

A favorite passage of mine is Deuteronomy 6:5-9. It reads: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give to you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them upon your children. Talk to them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.’

These few verses speak volumes. I love this passage because it reminds me first, to love our Lord with all that I have and second, to encompass Him in every aspect of life. It's such a blessing to be able to work at BCS where I can intentionally and unapologetically do this. My goal as a teacher is for these precious children to see God's presence in everything around them, in everything they learn and in everything they do. I can't wait to see their enthusiasm pour out as we discover God's hand in every aspect throughout the year! ”
