Mrs. Char Lavin
Resource Teacher
CHAR LAVIN JOINED THE BCS STAFF in the 1996-97 school year as our resource teacher. She has personally dedicated herself to the students she works with. “I believe that every child has gifts. It is a teacher’s job to help a child find theirs.” That is what she really loves about teaching.
Char also enjoys the variety that comes with her position. “I think it is such a privilege to be able to work with all the different age groups at BCS, in all the various subject areas.”
Char is a Wisconsin native and received her teaching degree from Concordia College in Nebraska. Her broad teaching experience has included Lutheran and public schools, prior to joining the BCS staff. Char and her husband, John, have three children. Her favorite activity is reading, and she loves golfing and working on her memory books in her spare time.
Mrs. Lavin’s Mission Statement:
“As resource teacher I am placed in a role that must meet the diverse needs of children that learn at different rates and in different ways. My challenge is to try, with God’s help, to evaluate my students’ disabilities and strengths and develop a curriculum plan that best meets their needs.
“God has created each of us in His image and for His purposes. My job is to assist each child in recognizing his/her gifts and to help the child develop them so he/she can best serve his/her Creator.
“My role as a resource teacher involves working closely with all classroom teachers. It is my intention to provide services for children that best meet the needs of each child and teacher. As a part of Christ’s family we all have to contribute to help it function:
I Corinthians 12:12 – The body is a unit, though it is made of many parts and though all its parts are many, they form one body.
“God wants all of us to love each other. As a teacher I must love each child as God’s unique creation. My role is to provide as many opportunities for exceptional children to be included in the regular classroom and encourage classmates to show their love and concern for each other:
John 13:34 – Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
