Mrs. Sandy Behling, 3-year-old kindergarten

SANDY BEHLING KNEW THAT SHE WANTED TO teach children even while attending Milwaukee Lutheran High School. After high school she went on to Bethel College in St. Paul, MN to receive her Elementary Education Degree. Beyond graduation in 1991 she enjoyed teaching for several years in both Kindergarten and 5th grade, until her first child was born.

Mrs. Behling chose the role of stay-at-home mom until her children became of school age. She stayed involved in the Children’s Ministry at her church both teaching and coordinating in the nursery and preschool age groups. She and her husband have 5 children, 4 who are currently attending BCS.

Sandy joined the BCS Staff in 2005, and is excited to be back in the classroom working with God’s precious children in the 3 year old Pre-K program. She says, “I like teaching all ages of children, but teaching younger children is such a joy, because they love to learn. You can see them soaking in all the new information, experiences and activities that they are exposed to. They are honest about how they feel and what they enjoy. They love life and see things in a refreshing, new way that helps me to experience things again for the first time. It helps me to appreciate more in terms of God's creation and the blessings He shares with us.”

Sandy was raised in Menomonee Falls and Richfield, WI, and attended Grace Lutheran School. She loves to spend time with her immediate and extended family, and enjoys sewing, quilting, biking, and spending time with friends.

Mrs. Behling’s Mission Statement

Children are a blessing from God!  They can learn greatly from us as well as us learning greatly from them.  The Bible refers to these truths on several occasions:

Psalm127:3-4: Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him.

Matthew 18:4: Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Mark 10:16: And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

“I feel truly blessed to be working with God’s children at BCS and I know that this is a great responsibility and call from God. I am privileged to teach the children both academic knowledge and spiritual truths. Helping them experience the wonder of God’s creation, the love He has for them and the blessing we receive by trusting and depending upon Him are key principles that can be taught and learned at a young age.

“My goal, with God’s help and guidance, is twofold. It is to teach each child the fundamentals in education while at the same time help them learn about God and who He is in a manner in which they can comprehend.

“Academics are important in a child’s growth and FUN while learning is a big priority in the Bright Beginning’s classroom. Children learn more and retain more when they are enjoying what they are doing. Therefore, I will strive to incorporate excitement and interest throughout each day using hands-on activities—activities that will get the children moving, touching, smelling, hearing, seeing, tasting and overall experiencing what they are being taught.

“Through these activities, they will begin to identify their colors, shapes, numbers and letters. The children will have the opportunity to recognize patterns and find similarities and differences between specific items. They will begin to comprehend measurement, estimation and will start learning to make predictions. There will be opportunities to learn about different animals, community workers, space and how things grow. They will also be exposed to the written word daily through stories, large group teaching times and whole class writing activities geared for preschoolers.

“It is important to teach young children by letting them experience these concepts in a manner that will lay the groundwork for greater learning in the years to come.

“Just as important, is for these little ones to see God through their own eyes, to understand and experience Him, and to know the love He has for them. All of this can be accomplished while learning beginning reading, math, science, socialization, art and more. It is a wonderful world full of knowledge created by a wonderful and loving God, and I want the children to be able to experience and learn both so they will in the future understanding that education and God go hand in hand.

“God has made a great world for us.  Let’s enjoy, experience & learn!”
