MS. GOORHOUSE JOINED THE BCS staff for the 2006-07 school year, after graduating from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has a strong background in Christian education, having attended Holland (MI) Christian Schools from kindergarten through high school—where her father teaches math.

Melissa believes that Christian education is important because “it teaches students how to view everything—not just church—from a Christian perspective. Christian education does not separate academics, sports, social activities, and the Bible into unrelated areas, but tries to show the student how they are all related. I want to teach in a Christian school because I want to show students that our faith affects every aspect of our life, including Spanish and P.E.”

Ms. Goorhouse loves the Spanish language and culture, and is “excited to share this with the students of BCS.” Besides having studied Spanish, she has tutored in ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, visited Mexico several times, and worked with Hispanic children and their families.

Melissa is a member of Park Christian Reformed Church in Holland, MI, and attended Brookside Christian Reformed Church while at Calvin. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys reading and music—especially playing the euphonium.
