This week you may have seen some silly looking second graders walking around at BCS! Many students were creatively dressed as Dr. Seuss characters. The Cat in the Hat was popular with red bow ties, striped hats, and painted noses, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 sported blue wigs and matching red shirts. Students were invited to bring Dr. Seuss books from home to share with the class. Some orally presented excerpts from their favorite Dr. Seuss book.
The students learned that Dr. Seuss is a pen name for Theodor Seuss Geisel, and that some of his books were written under the name Theo. LeSieg, which is his name spelled backward. With all of the rhythm, rhyme, tongue twisters and silly words, Dr. Seuss books are best read aloud! The class paired up and chose books to read aloud together. Throughout the day, the students had opportunities to make Dr. Seuss-themed bookmarks, door hangers, and drawings, and to work on word searches, mazes, and crossword puzzles. It was a great day!
