Apple Pie Day 2011 is in the books!  Many thanks to all who gave their time and talents, and of course to everyone who purchased pies.  Mark your calendar for next year’s Apple Pie Day:  October 26, 2012.

THE BCS FAMILY comes together to spend a day making hundreds of fresh Dutch apple pies for our annual fundraiser.  We’ve been making our “famous” pies for more than 12 years now!
How do we do it?
Wednesday night, you’ll find many helping hands assembling boxes and setting up.  On Thursday morning, topping is made and that evening, hundreds of bushels of Macintosh apples are delivered.  By Friday night, thousands of pounds of sugar, flour and margarine are transformed into thousands of the most delicious Dutch apple pies you’ve ever tasted.

Who can take part?

We welcome help from all over!  Parents, staff, alumni, grandparents and friends of the school all show up to pitch in.  High school students, including many BCS alumni, come from all over the area to help (and earn volunteer hours!), adding a welcome surge of youthful enthusiasm.  Everyone has a great time on the assembly line renewing acquaintances, peeling, coring, slicing, inspecting, filling, slinging dough, boxing, bagging, hauling, and cleaning.

How can I get my hands on some of those pies?

Pies can be ordered by contacting your favorite BCS student.  To order directly, contact our school office (pick up orders only) during our sale period (late September – early October).

How can I help during the event?

Many opportunities for people of all ages are available to make this event the huge success it is.  Online volunteer registration will open closer to the date for on-site help.  We also welcome donations of food and beverages to feed the hungry volunteers throughout the day.  If you would like to underwrite the cost of some of the materials needed to make or package pies, please contact our Apple Pie Day Coordinators.

Is childcare available if I help at BCS on Pie Day?

Yes!  We are able to provide free supervision for children of on-site pie day volunteers only (if you leave the site, we will need you to take your kids with you).  Registration is required.  Online childcare registration will open closer to the date of the event.
